I miss the souks - the flower stalls, the dried and fresh fruits (the farsimon was my special weakness), nuts and spices! I would probably spend all my shekelin on a day in the market, hehehe!
Hee hee! When I went home to the Philippines, my bags were full of fruits and nuts. I had to buy the somewhat unripe farsimon to make sure they lasted me a few weeks. Oh! The dates too! But I was picking those from the palms in the Arava.
Question, Chanit: I was told by an old lady in Nahariyya that the plural of 'shekel' is 'shekelin' although in Hebrew, the plural form ends in -im like in 'goyyim'. Now I'm confused, hahaha! Is it pronounced 'shekelin' but written 'sheklim'? Or is it really pronounced '-in'?
Hmmm... now we go into the issue of transliteration. Ayayay!
I love persimmon too(farsimon)! Here you call it="a-far-semon" also fresh dates! I buy them in the near supermarket :-) YES, shekeliM , is the right word, with M,you write it with M,like this =שקלים and spell it with M in the end :-) bevakasa :-)
