"Pereg cake" - Poppy Seed cake **חיתוכיות פרג טעימות

"Pereg" = poppy seed פרג

Poppy seed cake(Pereg cake)
3 1/2 cups flour
1/2 ts baking powder
3 TB sugar
2 egg yolks
200 gr butter
Few TB orange juice (or water)
1 cup sugar
4 TB honey
1/2 cup milk
3 cups grounded poppy seeds(=350 gr)
1 lemon =juice +Zest (finely grated)
1-2 TB dried Cranberries
1-2 Tb nuts
1 ts cinnamon
2 TB brandy
2 Tb sour cream
30 gr (=1 oz) butter
1 egg

First make the dough:
Mix everything by hand/Mixer (add more water if you need).keep cool for 2 hours.
Make the filling:
Boil the milk+sugar+honey.
Add poppy seeds, the lemon juice +Zest and mix.
Remove from heat and add the rest filling ing.
Let it cool.
Roll half of the dough thin and put it in a oven tray,Spread the poppy seed filling ,and cover with the second rolled dough.
Brush with the egg white..
Bake in a worm oven 180C (=350F), 35 minutes.
When cool cut and eat

Hi, I just wanted to tell you how wonderful your recipe is! i tried it out last night, and it's a huge success! I did make a few alterations-- I used tangerine juice instead of orange, apricots instead of cranberries... everyone loved it! this is one recipe that's definitely staying in my book! thanks again!
